I first started volunteering with the Care Center when I was a sophomore at UNCG. I needed some hours for a social work class and a friend of mine had done her internship with GPCC the semester before. My main jobs were cleaning the center, making lots and lots of copies of paperwork, and spending many hours sorting and organizing baby clothes and other donations. I loved contributing to an organization that meets women where they are and offers hope and support.
I watched as volunteers and staff members truly loved the clients they met each day. I saw them provide a place for young moms and dads to process their circumstances while also equipping clients with the practical help needed in order to make fully informed decisions.
It was during this time of volunteering that God broke my heart for the mission of the Care Center and gave me a passion for working with women and families who are experiencing unplanned pregnancy. It was during this time of volunteering that God broke my heart for the mission of the Care Center and gave me a passion for working with women and families who are experiencing unplanned pregnancy.Click To Tweet
Now, a few years later, I’m a part of the staff team and get the privilege of working with the clients I love every day of the week. And I’d never be here in this position—serving women, seeing lives changes, and doing what I love—if I hadn’t taken that first, slightly scary step into the volunteering world.
Maybe you also have a heart for expecting mothers and desire to offer them support, compassion, and truth in love. Maybe you’ve seen lots of posts lately about “Sidewalk Advocates” and you wonder what it would look like to get involved. Maybe you’re a little hesitant to take the first step.
We have such a great need for volunteers who are passionate about empowering women and men in our community to face their unplanned pregnancies without fear. Each volunteer and staff member we have has been gifted with their own unique talents and abilities that contribute to fulfilling our mission. It’s amazing to see how God can use each individual to meet needs here at the Care Center—and we’d love for YOU to be a part of it!
